It is situated in the suburb of Lindley and provides general services, emergency services and some specialist services it is the Kirklees and Calderdale Trauma Centre,

The Huddersfield Royal Infirmary originally had its own School of Nursing. This has now been incorporated into a 'Virtual Ward' setting within the University of Huddersfield's School of Human and Health Resources.

Ten years after the end of the First World War, a belated victory pie was created in the world-famous 'pie village' of Denby Dale, home to the Denby Dale Pie Company, in order to raise funds for Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

It is the base for Huddersfield Pharmacy Specials, established in 1964, which produces mainly unlicensed medicines and bespoke creams and ointments, oral liquids, eye drops and injectables. It employed 53 staff.[1]

In April 2006, photovoltaic array panels were installed on the roof of the hospital building, providing it with a renewable source of electricity.[2]

The emergency care and emergency theare and trauma services for Dewsbury, Huddersfield, Holmfirth, Brighouse and all of Calderdale/Halifax are accommodated at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. Planned care takes place at Calderdale Royal Hospital, Holme Valley Hospital and Dewsbury and District Hospital Calderdale and Dewsbury do however provide A+E services, with major cases being transferred to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
